Forskning i Bayer CropScience
I 2010 blev der anvendt 722 mio. euro, hvilket svarer til 27 procent af Bayer-koncernens forsknings- og udviklingsbudget, i Bayer CropScience delkoncernen.Når forskerne identificerer en substans, der er egnet til udvikling, bliver dens biologiske og toksiologiske profil og opførsel i omgivelserne undersøgt nøje. Samtidig bliver aktive substanser fra andre virksomheder testet og om muligt opkøbt. Markedspotentialet for udviklingskandidater analyseres, og de, der er egnede, bliver markedsført, når produktet er blevet godkendt på de enkelte markeder.
Aktuelle udviklingsprojekter omfatter såkaldt passive behandlinger som for eksempel lokkemidler, sammensætninger til skadedyrsbekæmpelse, nye herbicider (ukrudtsmidler) og fungicide kombinationer (svampedræbende midler) til plænepleje og prydplanter.
