Forskning i Bayer HealthCare

I 2010 blev 2.1 mio. euro, svarende til 68 procent af Bayer-koncernens forsknings- og udviklingsbudget, brugt inden for HealthCare delkoncernen. Med denne investering danner virksomheden grundlag for, at divisionerne Consumer Care, Medical Care, Animal Health og Bayer Pharmaceuticals kan introducere endnu flere innovative produkter på det voksende marked for sundhed.

Forskningen i Bayer Pharmaceuticals i Tyskland er koncentreret omkring bl.a. hæmatologi/kardiologi, onkologi, hormonbehandling hos praktiserende læger og billeddiagnostik. Hovedvægten ligger på områder med et højt terapibehov, hvor nye behandlingsformer er særligt vigtige.

Eksempler på nye aktive ingredienser fra den farmaceutiske forskning:

I Diabetes Care Divisionen fokuserer forskningen på at styrke kerneprodukterne og ekspansion inden for hurtigtvoksende og profitable markedssegmenter. Disse segmenter målrettes med brugervenlige apparater til måling af blodsukkeret, og som dækker de individuelle behov hos personer med diabetes. Divisionen undersøger også teknologier, der tillader løbende blodglukosekontrol, og – på længere sigt – muligheder for helt at fjerne behovet for at tage blodprøver. I denne sammenhæng er en licensaftale med Sontra Medical Corporation blevet udvidet; virksomhedens ultralydsbaserede SonoPrep®-teknologi øger muligheden for at scanne gennem huden.

Forskning i Animal Health Divisionen er målrettet antibiotika, midler mod parasitter og produkter til behandling af ikke-smitsomme sygdomme som nyresvigt og kongestive hjertelidelser.
